Abduction of arm9/21/2023 Latissimus: The Latissimus is one of the largest muscles in the back and primarily controls shoulder adduction (drawing the raised arm down towards the body). The prime abductors of the arm are the supraspinatus and deltoid muscles. Shoulder Abduction (Flexibility) Stand up straight or lie on your back on the floor with your legs straight. Teres Minor: The Teres Minor is a rotator cuff muscle that controls shoulder external rotation (rotation of the arm such that the hand moves away from the midline). Adduction is moving your arms from a position parallel. Teres Major: The Teres Major is a shoulder muscle that controls shoulder adduction (drawing the raised arm down towards the body). Abduction is moving your arms from the sides of your body outward and up until your arms are parallel to the floor, up to 90 degrees. Arm abduction Arm abduction occurs when the arms are held at the sides, parallel to the length of the torso, and are then raised in the plane of the torso. Assistance in arm abduction, stabilization of the humerus as part of the rotator cuff muscles Serratus anterior Serratus anterior muscle : This muscle is so named due to its anterior digitations that have a serrated or finger-like appearance. Supraspinatus: The Supraspinatus is a rotator cuff muscle that primarily controls shoulder abduction (outside arm elevation away from the midline of the body). Subscapularis: The Subscapularis is a rotator cuff muscle that controls shoulder internal rotation (rotation of the arm such that the hand moves towards the midline). Infraspinatus: The Infraspinatus is a rotator cuff muscle that controls shoulder external rotation (rotation of the arm such that the hand moves away from the midline). CO-3017 Abduction Arm Sling w/Exercise ball. It has three major parts that control shoulder flexion (forward elevation of the arm), shoulder abduction (outside arm elevation away from the midline of the body) and shoulder extension (movement of the arm behind the back).
